What this page is for

Kwechi lets your family put its own things in: your voice saying a word in your own language, a photograph, a note, a piece of your child's work, a book or a video you want on his shelf. This page says what may go in, who can see it, and what Kwechi will take out. Where it describes what the product does, it was checked against the code.

Your things go into your family, and stay there

Everything your family uploads lands in a private store. Not "private" as a setting you could change — there is no public address for any of it. A file is reached only through a link that is made fresh each time the page loads and stops working after ten minutes.

There are three stores:

• Photographs — profile pictures for adults and for children. Up to 2 MB, as PNG, JPEG or WebP.
• Family media — your voice recordings, work your child has done, and other files you attach. Up to 200 MB each, as images, video, audio or PDF.
• Diagrams — pictures Kwechi generates for drills and modules. Up to 5 MB.

The first part of every file's path is your family. The rules that decide who may read it resolve through your family's membership, in the database, on every request.

So, plainly:

• No other family ever sees a file of yours. Not your recordings, not your photographs, not your child's work.
• No file travels when another family copies an archetype. There is no path in the copying routine that can reach a child, a photograph or a recording. What a copy does carry is the weights, the philosophy, and the beliefs the author flagged for the template — their own words. The terms page sets that out.
• No file is ever sent to the AI, and Kwechi sends nothing of yours to anyone for training a model. What you type is a different question and this page is not the place it is answered: the philosophy and up to twenty of your beliefs go to the AI vendor word for word whenever Kwechi asks it something. The privacy page lists exactly which text travels.
• None of it is sold, shared or advertised against. There is no advertising in this product.

What you may put in

• Your own voice, saying words in your own language, for your child to hear in a voice he knows. A recording carries who spoke and which dialect.
• Photographs your family took, of your own child or of your own family.
• Your own writing: notes, beliefs, philosophy, what you noticed today.
• Your child's own work: what he made, wrote, drew or built.
• Books and videos that are yours to add — work you made, work that is out of copyright, or work whose licence lets you.

What you may not put in

• Somebody else's book, film or recording. A scan, a rip, a download, a PDF that came from somewhere it should not have. Kwechi does not rehost other people's work and neither may you.
• Anything you do not have the right to upload, whatever the source and however easy it was to get.
• A recording of a person who has not agreed to be recorded. This is the one people get wrong without meaning to. Recording your mother saying a word is lovely; ask her first, and tell her it is stored and who can hear it. Her voice is information about her, not about you.
• Anything about a child who is not yours. No photographs of other people's children, no notes about them.
• Anything that puts a child at risk, or that is unlawful.

If you are not sure whether something may go in, it probably may not. Ask.

Recording a child's voice

Do not record your child's voice into Kwechi. The recording feature is for adults saying words a child will hear, and nothing in the product stops a child being recorded — so this is a rule you keep rather than one the product keeps for you.

The reason is that a recording of a child's voice is information about that child in a way that an adult's is not. The federal children's privacy rule lists, as personal information in its own right, "a photograph, video, or audio file where such file contains a child's image or voice" — read from 16 CFR 312.2 on 16 September 2026. That rule is written about information collected from a child online, and this page draws no conclusion about where a parent recording their own child sits under it. Kwechi's rule does not wait on that answer: a recording of a child is treated here as information about him, and it does not go in. When Kwechi supports it, this page will say so and say on what terms.

Kwechi performs no voice recognition, no speaker identification and no face recognition, anywhere. No feature of that kind will be built without proper advice first.

Photographs of your child

A photograph is optional. Kwechi offers an illustrated avatar first, on purpose.

If you add one: it goes to the private store, is served only through an expiring link, never travels with a template copy, and is refused by the code that builds an AI request before it can ever reach a model.

Kwechi keeps no separate record of your consent to hold it. Adding the photograph is the only consent there is.

And no screen takes it off again. The photograph is attached once, when you add the child, and there is nothing in the product that replaces it or clears it. It leaves when the child's profile is permanently deleted, or when the whole family is — and both of those sweep the file out of storage before they remove a single row. To have one photograph taken out on its own, ask; the same address gap applies to asking, and "How to reach us" at the foot of this page says where that stands.

Why some things open here and some send you out

Every item in the library carries a licence and a record of where it came from. The database refuses a row without one. One piece of code reads that licence and decides what the screen may do, so no page has to guess:

• Read it here. Public-domain and openly licensed texts are stored whole and read in the app, and you may keep a copy, with the credit line travelling inside the file.
• Watch it in its own player. Where the licence allows embedding and nothing else, the video plays in its owner's official player. It is never downloaded and there is no way to download it.
• Go out to it. Where the licence allows neither, the card sends you to where the work lives.

The screen tells you which of those it is, and why, in a sentence. Not everything in the library is free of copyright — some of it is somebody else's work, embedded or linked with their terms intact, by design.

An item whose rights are unclear cannot be published or scheduled at all. It sits in a review queue until a person settles it.

What Kwechi generates

Anything the AI writes is labelled as generated and carries who reviewed it and when. It cannot be marked approved without a named reviewer — the database refuses it — so nothing generated reaches a child's plan without an adult having read it.

What it writes for your family is yours to use as you like.

What Kwechi will remove

• Anything of yours, on your say-so. It is yours. Ask and it goes.
• Anything that infringes somebody's copyright, as soon as a plausible complaint is made. An item marked for takedown cannot be published — the database enforces that, so the hiding is not something anyone has to remember to do.
• A recording of a person who did not agree, on their request as much as on yours.
• Anything unlawful, or anything that puts a child at risk, without waiting to be asked twice.

Asking for something to be taken down

Write to the founder. Say:

1. What the item is, and where in Kwechi you saw it.
2. What you own, and why you think this is it.
3. That you believe in good faith it is not authorised by the owner, an agent or the law.
4. How to reach you.
5. That what you are telling us is accurate, and that you are the owner or authorised to act.

What happens: the item is marked and hidden, which stops it being published or scheduled; the complaint is looked into; the decision is recorded; and you are told what it was.

Two things to know before you write. There is no published address to send a notice to — see "How to reach us" at the foot of this page. And Kwechi has no copyright agent registered with the US Copyright Office; a notice is read by the person who runs it.

Getting your things back, or getting them removed

Settings, under Your data, is where you take a copy and where you delete. The copy is the owner's and a parent's to take, without asking anybody; a guardian, a carer or a viewer cannot take one. It carries the actual bytes of what your family put in — your photographs, your voice recordings, the work your child attached — not links to them, so it opens with no Kwechi and no password.

Deleting a child profile, or the whole family, removes the files, and removes them first. The database refuses to delete a single row while one photograph or recording is still in storage, because the rows are what say where the files are: take them away first and the files can never be found again.

One thing to know beside it. Deleting ONE voice recording marks the record deleted and leaves the audio where it is; only deleting a child profile or the whole family sweeps the files. To have a single file removed, ask — and the same address gap applies to asking: see "How to reach us" below.

What Kwechi does not do

• There is no published address, so a takedown notice, an export request or a complaint has nowhere to go.
• There is no takedown page, and no copyright agent registered with the US Copyright Office.
• Removing ONE recording leaves the audio file. Only deleting a child profile or a family sweeps the files, and then it sweeps them before it removes a single row.
• No screen removes a child's photograph. It is attached once and stays until his profile or the family is deleted, which sweeps the file first.
• Kwechi keeps no record of your consent to store your child's photograph.
• Nothing in the product stops a child's voice being recorded, and this page asks you not to.
• There is no company, no registered address and no named contact on this page.

How to check this page

• Private stores, family-scoped paths and size limits: supabase/migrations/0017_storage.sql.

• What text does go to the AI: packages/ai-tutor/src/prompt.ts, which sends the philosophy and up to twenty beliefs word for word.
• Recordings, speakers and dialects: 0040_vocabulary.sql; the deletion path at apps/web/src/lib/vocabulary/actions.ts.
• That deleting one recording leaves the object: apps/web/src/lib/vocabulary/actions.ts marks the row and calls no storage removal; the sweep lives in complete_deletion_purge() in 0054_purge_and_audit_retention.sql and supabase/functions/purge-deletions/.
• That no screen removes a photograph: child_profiles.avatar_path is written in one place, apps/web/src/lib/onboarding/actions.ts, and updateChildAction in apps/web/src/lib/children/actions.ts never touches it; the file leaves only through complete_deletion_purge(), same two files as above.
• Who may take a copy: request_family_export() in 0055_family_export.sql, gated on is_family_principal() from 0024_family_authority.sql.
• What a copy carries: packages/shared-types/src/export-classification.mjs, with supabase/tests/27_family_export.mjs.
